Ryder Hey on His Dominant MMA Debut at Bloodline Fight Series.
At just 18 years old, Ryder trains at The Combat Institute in Colchester, home to head coach James Webb, Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion and coach to UFC fighter Tom Aspinall. He trains in a gym full of active fighters, including Christian Young, who has a professional record of 2 wins and 1 loss, and Sam Hadley, who is 3–1, giving him regular access to experienced training partners.
Preparation for the fight went smoothly, as he and his team discussed his performance after every session, took minimal time off, and stayed consistent in the gym. He said: “After my fight I was back in the gym the next day.”
The fight started with Ryder controlling the pace, securing takedowns and performing well on the feet with effective striking combinations. In the second round, Hey maintained the pace and, at 2:32, established strong back control on Cristaudo. The fight ended with Ryder Hey securing a unanimous decision victory.
Ryder said, “It was a long time coming,” referring to his amateur journey through junior shows, with his debut highlighting his potential. With his amateur career now underway, he added: “I just want to keep fighting,” as he looks to stay active and build momentum.
