Mason Kinsella lands superb knockout on his pro debut at Cage Warriors Academy
Mason delivers a stunning knockout against Eddy Hourtal on Saturday at Cage Warriors Academy 41.
With an amateur record of 8 wins and 0 losses, turning professional brings brutal four-ounce gloves instead of eight-ounce gloves and five-minute rounds instead of three-minute rounds, increasing the risk of knockouts and devastating finishes, which Mason said he’s looking forward to experiencing. “You’ll be seeing more knockouts,” said Kinsella.
With a dominant victory, Mason is set up as a prospect for titles, which he’s said is the next checkpoint for him. “I’d like to get a regional title; that would be next for me.”
Becoming a pro was a “humbling experience” and ticked off a childhood dream, said Kinsella in a post after his fight, but now getting a regional title is the next step.
Mason entered his pro debut against an accomplished opponent in Eddy Hourtal. Hailing from Ringside Lyon, he is a French prospect with an amateur record of 16 wins and 4 losses. Known for his wrestling and slick submissions on the ground, he is a talented athlete.
The fight started with Eddy and Mason both displaying good striking, but Kinsella landed an uppercut, which stunned Hourtal at 3:40 of the first round. Mason increased pressure in round two.
In round two, Mason capitalised on landing successful jabs and rocked Eddy with a right hand, then unleashed a flurry of hooks, a head kick, and another shot to the head, which dropped Eddy and ended the fight. “I didn't need to continue; he was done after that.”
Mason has made it clear he is very happy with how the fight went. However, he knows there is a long road ahead, as he is now focused on winning a regional title. He has a lot of work to do, but he is heading in the right direction toward the top of mixed martial arts.
